Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop the technical and conceptual skills required to work in any area of arts practice.

It applies to individuals who commit to improving their professional practice in both an artistic and business context. The skills developed in this unit apply to all areas of creative practice, including photography, craft, design, live performance, technical production and visual arts. This work would usually be carried out under mentored supervision.

No licensing, legislative or certification conditions apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Evidence of Performance

Evidence of the ability to:

apply planned strategies to experiment safely and sustainably with new ideas in a range of genres and interpretations, and refine skills in own area of arts practice

demonstrate work practice that develops own style through exploring and experimenting with new ideas in making and/or interpreting work

use discussion and evaluation opportunities to inform and develop own technical and conceptual skills

access varied industry networking and event opportunities to develop own arts practice, promote own work and pursue work opportunities.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.


Evidence of Knowledge

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

summarise information and resources available to develop self as artist

discuss different creative thinking techniques that could be used to generate ideas for own arts practice

outline trends, emergent technologies, work opportunities and career planning in own area of arts practice

describe industry networks and promotional opportunities relevant to own area of creative practice

explain work, ideas and techniques of well-regarded practitioners in own area of arts practice

discuss theoretical and historical contexts relevant to own area of arts practice

discuss intellectual property issues and legislation associated with own area of arts practice

summarise sustainability considerations for creative practice in the relevant context

explain work health and safety requirements in relation to own area of arts practice.


Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:

an environment where technical and conceptual skills in an area of arts practice can be developed and enhanced over time

resources relevant to area of arts practice.

Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
